During the Content Design course, we discussed another very important topic. CHATBOTS.

We will see a future filled with machine learning, artificial intelligence, and voice-based interfaces. Companies will find the best, most effective ways to connect with customers through these new interfaces, increasing their need for writers and designers.

That’s where chatbots come into play.

What is a chatbot?

A chatbot (also commonly referred to as a bot, short for robot) is an automated, conversation-based experience that lives within messaging apps, websites, or on devices. It simulates human conversation via voice or text to help users interact with software tools and devices. Chatbot decisions are sometimes powered by Artificial Intelligence (AI), by human-created rules, or a hybrid of both methods.

Example:

Hey Siri? I believe we are all familiar with MS. Siri.

You’re right, Siri is an Alexa game. The game is extremely funny! The game requires you to make tough decisions — yes or no. :P Often, the results are funny and unpredictable. Give it a try :)

These bots can entertain you, teach you things, grow your business, help build habits, send news updates, answer frequently asked questions, and much more.

Business reasons for creating and designing chatbots

The majority of the websites and stores you visit have some form of chat component, whether automated or human-powered. Businesses may wish to implement a chatbot for a number of reasons, and automation provides a lot of benefits to sales, marketing, and support.

It’s convenient

Convenience for both the business and the customer comes to mind first. Chatbots enable businesses to respond to customers 24/7, regardless of whether the business is open or closed.

As well as having personal conversations with many customers at once, a business can also scale its marketing, sales, and support initiatives to reduce the number of queues and wait times.

Customers no longer need to wait for a human to join a live chat, or wait on hold when they call.

Chatbots are always available, so customers can choose the time that works best for them. They can send a message at 2 am, and if they want to pick up the conversation at a later time or another day, they can.

Efficiency

An automated chatbot sends messages automatically based on customer actions rather than the business owner sending a message from their computer or phone. Every time a customer engages with a chatbot, they receive a customized, consistent brand experience.

Is it possible to build a chatbot for free?

It’s one of the simplest platforms available today. Any bot you create with this tool can be integrated with popular eCommerce platforms like Shopify or premade WordPress themes. No coding is required, and the best part is it is free.

There are several examples of successful chatbots on eCommerce websites. The one thing that they all have in common is the presence of chatbots, which makes the customer experience even better.
